Choose A Backsplash
Customers have a variety of choices when it comes to backsplash options. There is no right, or wrong choice; rather backsplash can be added to create the look that you desire.
- 3-1/2" High Backsplash: At SDC, we typically give our customers the option to add a 3-1/2" high backsplash for their granite countertops, bar tops, or bathroom vanities. Backsplash height can also be customized to the customers specifications.
- Full Height Backsplash: Full height backsplash is also a popular choice for kitchens. Full height backsplash typically runs from the top of your granite countertops to the base or bottom of the upper cabinets. It provides a unique look and give extends the visual flow or grain of the granite.
- Tile: Tile is another option when it comes to backsplash. Many customers purchase tile to accent their countertops. Others use tile in conjunction with a 3-1/2" high backsplash for a cleaner look. Still others use tile to create a pattern, or other visual effect.
- Combination (Tile with 3-1/2" to 4" high, or Full Height with 3-1/2" to 4" high, etc.):Allows for flexibility by combining materials.

Choose Your Overhangs
At SDC, we typically will add an 1-1/2" overhang to the front of any countertop surface, including kitchen countertop, bathroom vanity, bar top, etc., and add 1" to any open ends. This may be modified however, based on your cabinetry style and appliance placement.
Many times, we are asked the question, "How much of an overhang should my island have?' While there is no standard answer to that question, we do not recommend an overhang larger than 12" without some sort of additional support, in most circumstances. There may be limitations on overhang sizes based on the room size, cabinetry, etc. Providing base cabinet dimensions will help determine your overhang sizes.
If you have further questions in regards to overhangs, our measure technician can assist you with your needs at the time of measure. Contact us today!
